Make a Hidden Box
You'll have no trouble finding litter box furniture that will match your decor and fit almost any type of cat litter box. However, if you already have a spare piece of furniture and want to adapt that into a hidden box, it is very easy to do so.
- First, make sure the furniture has easy entry access for litter changes and cleanup. A small cabinet with hinged doors works well, as does a bench with a flip-up top.
- Use a jigsaw to cut a hole in the side, top, or back of the furniture. A square opening is easiest to cut for most beginners. The hole should be large enough for your cat to easily enter and exit the cabinet. This will vary, but a general rule of thumb would be to cut out an eight-inch square. The top of the hole should be about 14 inches off the ground, but you can adjust this two or three inches lower for smaller or senior cats.
- Sand the edges of the hole to make sure it's safe for your kitty. Consider painting or staining the edges of the hole to make them match the finish of the piece.
- Add a litter pan to the inside of the cabinet to contain the litter.
An Instant Upgrade
Ultimately, as long as the piece is functional, you can select the one that best fits in with your decor. No matter which cat litter box furniture option you choose, you'll find that these pieces are an instant upgrade.
